The five reasons why hydrogen is the energy of tomorrow for decarbonising transport
An accessible and infinite energy source
Hydrogen is produced using different methods, nowadays mainly by the gas and hydrocarbon industry. It can also be produced by water electrolysis. In this case, the use of renewable energy sources can help promote low-carbon mobility.
A powerful energy source that emits no CO2
Hydrogen offers the highest energy power of all the fuels. Its power per kilogram is three times that of petrol. Furthermore, it emits no CO2 when converted to electricity by a fuel cell, discharging only water.
H2 combines the advantages of electrical energy with the performance of combustion energy
Hydrogen vehicles offer comparable performance to combustion engine vehicles, in terms of both range and refueling time. Hydrogen is therefore particularly well suited to heavy-duty and intensive mobility applications.
An accessible alternative for vehicle manufacturers
Hydrogen vehicles first went on sale in 2015. Nowadays, all the big manufacturers have hydrogen vehicle development and production programmes scheduled for the coming months and years. The offering covers a variety of light and heavy goods vehicles as well as buses, boats, and trains.
Its development is publicly funded
